| | Skepticism - The Rising of the Flames | ] | Well surprise, surprise - I'm not actually dead! But LJ is starting to be which I find sad. Time to move on, I guess. I'm not abandoning this place yet though but I'm considering starting a proper blog on my website. That's right yo, I've got a real, portfolio website! Have had it for over three years, actually, but as it's never been fully ready, it just wasn't official. Tehe. Well now I'm working on a new layout for it so it's the last moment to actually see the old one. It's not finished, of course, keep that in mind!
 Astarise.net
I'm so lucky to have a web developer sister - she coded the base for everything and I just filled it with contents.
Anyway, I also have an offline portfolio. A4 size. Also work in progress ^^;;; This is actually a third attempt (I destroyed the previous two). I painted the cover one winter night in Helsinki... It's actually painted (two shades of silver), not screenprinted (the process I'm almost ready to start playing with) but I used a stencil with a previously vector-designed print out.

Ok, let's check what's inside. Of course it's completely different than on my website. Let me just tell you - choosing an oval as a page frame is one of the most difficult and masochistic ideas of mine -_-. The amount of time I've spent doing the graphics is just indecent..

Well, till next update then! |

| Pince nez glasses photoshoot + misc |
[Aug. 6th, 2011|07:46 pm] |
So I bought these awesome antique glasses ages ago:

The problem with them was that they already had lenses that were a very strong + and I just couldn't see a thing through them. So I removed them and hoped to go to an optician or something to have some nice zero lenses installed. I can't cut glass myself. But then I got an epiphany that it doesn't have to be real glass as I'd just treat those glasses as a dress up accessory ^^;
I discovered that the thickness of the original lenses equaled the thickness of the plastic from a cd case so I just cut out two plastic lenses and it looks perfect \^o^/ ( pic )
I decided to have a quick photoshoot with them. Victorian/steampunk inspired. Also, an excuse to wear my chatelaine. They're really quick pictures and then I was too lazy to photoshop them properly so I just used the same template for all :P

| | Екклесиаст - Точка Отсчёта | ] | Some time ago I had the honor of modeling a hat made by the glamorous professional milliner Fiona Timantti. Photos by Atelieri O. Haapala. The photoshoot was fun because unlike in any other, my personal input was minimal (just shoes) and I let myself be makeupped, haired and directed ^^
I'm supposed to be a circus freak mouse... kind of thing.

| Hennails |
[Jul. 8th, 2010|04:16 pm] |
Heyyy multiculturalism inspires! Unfortunately in my case it's a very mundane inspiration ^^;
There are a few girls from Somalia in my Finnish class. They're really strange and intimidating and one of them even beat me up lol. ( Read more... ) One thing that caught my attention was their nails which were not varnished but either black or brown. Some had only the top half of the nails dark. Initially I thought they were tortured with a hammer but then it occurred to me that it was just henna. HENNA!!! I love henna. I've been using it to dye my eyebrows since i was 13 and it's a life saver.
So of course I tried it on my nails as well ^^. Basically I've permanently stained them black. It's like a tattoo - it won't go away, I'll just have to dye the 'roots'. I'm permanently branded with darkness *-*
I really wonder why this idea isn't more popular. I mean, it's so perfectly convenient for me since I basically either paint my nails black or dark dark red. Now my manicure consists of a single layer of clear enamel (for gloss). No corrections, no problem with visible chipping (even though black is the only color whose chipping is acceptable). It looks completely like real black enamel and makes me very happy~
I also thought about some henna tattoos. This is my first try:

Lol! I thought that since I have this new darkness in me, I'll continue the theme. Since the tattoo is not serious, its meaning cannot be serious either. 'Zuo' is a misspelled 'zło' which means 'evil' in Polish. Only if you write it like that, it just looks stupid, like 'eeviel' or something ^^;;;
The only problem with it is that it's fading after a few days and I have to redo the whole henna procedure. Maybe my henna is too weak? The floral motives the Somalian girls had on their hands look very strong. I should ask them where they buy their henna but 1) they don't really speak English, 2) their Finnish is kind of worse than mine, 3) I'm kind of scared to talk to them XD |

| | Eyes Wide Shut OST - 08 Masked Ball | ] | I'll start with a really bad pun, beware: Instead of saying I was bloody excited about it, I should have said I was veri excited. Ahahahaghagsajdhgvfydf!!!! Get it? I'm a genius.
SUOMI ZOMBIEEET~!!
Ok, well as I found out about the whole even the day before, I didn't have any time to prepare my costume. I don't have my laboratory here anyway, so I just composed something out of the 'normal' clothes I had. And the tiny bit of blood :3 I made some porridge with stuff and some soy spaghetti, prepared a special greenish/dead body lotion and brought some flour. I came out pale green-limbed and finished the makeup at the meeting place. A friendly zombie gave me some more blood on my hands, which was nice as I've run out of mine.
This is a cool picture somebody took of me:

But that was after the whole thing, when most of my face porridge fell off. You see the spaghetti in my hair? They're supposed to be long maggots ^^. I had some more of them on my body too, yay. ( More pictures ) |

| Flower compositions~ |
[Mar. 31st, 2010|11:34 pm] |
All of those I made during my floristics course which was quite cool and interesting but the materials we were given to play with were ugh, very bright and tacky. Especially the artificial flowers. So generally my theme of choosing the colors was avoiding the brightness which was almost impossible sometimes ;_;
 ( Real flowers~! )
 ( Artificial flowers~! )
Of course I'll be continuing this direction so await more in the future~
